Overall Objectives:
Reporting to the principal accountant and accounts senior, this is a support role to develop the community accountancy service to community organisations within Cornwall.

Assisting in administration of the service; researching new clients; researching funding opportunities; maintaining of client links; issue of information; assistance with client bookkeeping, payroll and independent examinations.

As an apprentice you are expected to be working towards a recognised accountancy qualification such as AAT with the potential to take this further towards professional qualifications such as ACCA or ACIE.

Specific role tasks:

  • Assisting to develop the Community Accountancy Service by helping research and prepare funding applications;
  • Assistance in preparing and monitoring reports for donors and trustees;
  • Taking enquiries, issuing information and managing the diary for delivering services to clients;
  • Assisting with client bookkeeping;
  • Assisting with organisational bookkeeping including issue of contracts and sales invoices;
  • Preparing client payrolls as required according to client workload;
  • Assisting in the completion of independent examinations as required according to client workload;
  • Developing and updating social media networks & website information as required;
  • Organising stationery and filing systems.

Personal Requirements:


  • Good general education with aptitude for maths;
  • Accountability of own role;
  • General bookkeeping and finance;
  • To work in collaboration with and respect the contribution of clients, colleagues and others;
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Use of MSExcel and MSWord;
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines;
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility;
  • Ability to work across disciplines;
  • Able to be independently mobile to visit clients and different offices within the county.


  • AAT part qualified;
  • Knowledge of charity accounting;
  • Knowledge and experience of working in an accounts setting;
  • Research skills.
